gameplay style, is it fixed?

I've always considered myself a stealth gamer. I've used this style since I seriously started gaming in the noughties (2000s). Creeping around, and especially in Skyrim where you get xp for no-one seeing you and it pops up gratifyingly on your screen, is very satisfying. Tomb Raider 2013 was a disappointment because the game takes control and you can't manually decide when to use stealth. It's called "cover", where the game mechanics make you crouch automatically. Same with the later Splinter Cell series. Franchises like Far Cry that take control away from you and you have to mash buttons - now that's very un-immersive.

But I digress. I'm currently playing Dishonored 2 again and every time I finish a level, High Chaos (Lethal/Assault) are my stats (below) and I have a giggle (after all, it is a game):

Do you agree that life circumstances affect the way you play a game? I've never agreed with this pov but lately I'm changing my mind. Life has thrown me a series of curve balls - accidents, betrayal and emotional abuse - and now I'm going around in Dishonored 2 killing everyone instead of being merciful! Feels good! Now actually, this being my second playthrough of course I want to change it up - I know my way around now, I know that the repurcussions of playing lethal instead of stealth aren't that big or important, I know that npc's are just characters and not the protagonist, and I know lethal is faster than stealth - things are over and done with and so the story moves on. So it's not all reactionary, and yes I disagree with the current notion that violence in games begets violence. Not so. I would never murder someone and we definitely don't carry guns on us in Australia, well I don't.

Which brings me to another digression. I was moderator on a graphics forum for 14 years and some of the ladies were up in arms (pun intended) saying that it was ok to carry a gun in their handbag to the shops, just in case. Just in case what? I have not yet heard of one case in America when there's a mass shooting that ladies take their gun out of their little handbags and shoot the guy who's murdering people at a concert, school, kindergarten, theatre. So why carry the gun and then not use it if you're so intent on protecting yourself and others?!? Let's just say it - America needs to do something about guns. Copy Australia.

Back to the topic in question. So from stealth to lethal. It seems a clear choice, but then next time I will highly likely play stealth again.

Mebbe.
