My brother-in-law has cancer and I got an email from him today with a beautiful poem he's written:
The Long Waiting
We are the longest longing
an echo without end
We are the greatest sighing
alone without a friend
We are the ever crying
O God whom will you send
We are the restless waiting
for much that is unseen
We are the inward yearning
for what surely may have been
We are the little dying
in the loss of every dream
And yet we are the hoping
that springs eternal true
We are the anxious praying
that has our eyes on you
We are the grateful receiving
that fills our hand anew.
